A dangerous investment

When you have nothing but your life, how do you invest? When your inheritance is a gun and your world is dominated by violence instead of laws, and people who value their guns more than they do your life, how do you prepare for the future?

After Ces Drilon was kidnapped and word leaked out that the kidnappers were asking for a PhP10 million ransom, a news report came out saying that the amount of ransom being asked generated support for the bandits holding Ces, her two cameramen, and a Mindanao-based professor.

Those who wanted a share of the money joined the bandits, in the time-honored tradition of work now, pay later.

It is easier to risk your life when society has given you little to live for…while at the same time increasing your chances of dying for no reason at all.
