HEAD to Bolante: “Truth-Telling is Therapeutic!”

A health group called on embattled former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante to heal himself by coming out with what he knows of the multi-million peso fertilizer scam.

Doctors belonging to Health Alliance for Democracy (HEAD) noted that Bolante’s current medical problems are mainly stress-related. Based on the medical bulletins released by St. Lukes Medical Center and Bolante’s own personal physician, their findings are mainly erosive gastritis, esophagitis, and multiple ulcers.

“These conditions cannot be managed by drugs or medicine alone. An essential part of the therapeutic regimen is the removal of the stressor,” stated Dr. Geneve E. Rivera, HEAD secretary-general.

“For Mr. Bolante, the main stressor is his refusal to confront the issue of the Fertilizer Scam, which has hounded him even before he returned to the country.”

HEAD believes that truth-telling will be therapeutic for Mr. Bolante.

“Both the Filipino people and Mr. Bolante himself will benefit and will be much relieved if he will face up to the issues he find himself enmeshed in.”

None of Bolante’s current conditions is life-threatening. HEAD doctors agree that because he can be treated on an outpatient basis, his confinement may even aggravate rather than alleviate his condition.

“The battery of diagnostic procedures can, by themselves, be stressful. The hospital setting, no matter how comfortable, can also cause tension especially when hospitalization is unnecessary,” added Dr. Rivera.

Another stressor, according to HEAD, is Malacañang, which continues to exert pressure on Bolante to protect its own interest.

“Mr. Bolante should help his own recovery before his condition becomes complicated, and he can begin this by telling the Filipino people what he knows, what really happened to P728 million fertilizer funds, and who should be held accountable for this fiasco.”###
