Filipina Red Cross worker Mary Jean Lacaba is now free

Filipina Red Cross worker Mary Jean Lacaba is now free and will soon undergo debriefing. Police say Lacaba was released at about 6 p.m. in Indanan, Sulu. She is now at the AFP Trauma Center in Jolo. It is not yet clear whether or not ransom was actually paid, but the government has an official no-ransom policy.
Anastasia Isyuk, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) spokesperson, said they were relieved about the release but pointed out that two more hostages remain with the Abu Sayyaf.
“We appeal to the kidnappers to release them quickly and unharmed,” she said.
Malacanang confirmed the release, saying it was relayed to President Arroyo by Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro himself.
