RP now has 10 confirmed cases of A(H1N1)

There are now ten confirmed cases of Influenza A(H1N1), according to the health department. Six of the cases attended the wedding in Zambales that was also attended by the Taiwanese woman who later tested positive for the virus.

Since the “contagiousness” of Influenza A(H1N1) is between 20-30%, the health department says there is a possibility that four more wedding guests could test positive for the virus. Health officials say 50 people attended the wedding, but they refused to disclose exactly how many of the 50 they have contacted and are monitoring, or even exactly where in Zambales the May 17 wedding was held.

Of the four who recently tested positive for the virus, three are Filipinos, and one is a 13-year-old foreigner. Two of the Filipinos are females: a 24-year-old mother and her one-year-old daughter. The other is a 47 year old male.

All are taking Oseltamivir and only have mild acute respiratory illness, the DOH statement said. Duque reiterates that less than one percent of those who got sick with Influenza A(H1N1) died from the disease.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) will hold a special meeting on Influenza A(H1N1) later today, Duque said.
